So yesterday we had the March for Science nationwide. I attended the local March for Science here in Ridgecrest, California.
I don’t know what surprises me more, that we had a March for Science here or that I was able to attend it, but we have Jenna Dubytskyi and Frank Cruz and Ridgecrest United to thank for organizing the event and we have Mrs. Loner and the Teen and the Scrawny Grabbers to thank for getting me to go to it.
From the pictures that Jenna D. was so generous to send me when I emailed her to ask, you can tell that we had a pretty good turnout for a small town in the Mojave Desert.
After Mrs. spending a few minutes making a sign because we didn’t bring one because we haven’t really done anything like this before, we went over to the petroglyphs at Petroglyph Park to take the traditional group photo before setting out. Because this may be my first time to this particular rodeo, but not Ridgecrest United.
The march route took us up and down much of China Lake Blvd, the main thoroughfare in town.
Here we have some action shots of the march. My scooter was near the rear because of trouble with cracked sidewalks and accessibility, but all in all it wasn't as horrible as I expected. A thoughtful person would have planned ahead and run the route on the scooter beforehand to get a heads-up on any potential issues, but this is me we’re dealing with.
Also, here are some pictures of the signs that people came up with to carry.
Ridgecrest United also had a voting booth set up at the street fair at nearby Leroy Jackson Park that I never did figure out what the reason was for and I was too fried physically and mentally to ask but I stopped by and thanked them for the vital work that they did and failed to convince the Teen to pre-register to vote.
So it goes.
We got a lot more support and people waving and honking and giving us thumbs-up and talking to us than I expected, and I feel a lot better about living here today.
Now if I could only find a decent D&D group.
